Info about hiking in Norway. Two hikes along the Lysefjord, one to the famous rock platform Preikestolen, one to the mountain Vikastakken.

Travelogue Norway 2021
Preikestolen and Vikastakken

There are at least three hiking destinations in Norway that are famous especially because you can take spectacular photos at the destination of the hike. Preikestolen, Kjeragbolten and Trollunga. Preikestolen is the easiest hike of the three and, with a total length of 8 kilometres and 350 metres of ascent from the official car park, is most suitable for children and casual hikers. Scenically, I like this hike the best of the three I mentioned.

The hiking trails to the top attractions in Norway are excellently maintained. This is refinanced through hefty parking fees.

Here now pictures of the hike:

And here it is at last! And there are quite some people, even though the tourist numbers were very low at this point of time.

But with a little luck and digital skill, you get such photos as a souvenir 🙂

With all the breaks and LOTS of photos, we were out for a little under five hours.

I don’t remember if it was that evening or the next morning that I realized we would not be able to make the hike to Kjeragbolten from our accommodation in one day. But the weather was not so good anyway and so we decided for a short or at least less spectacular hike compared to the day before directly from our cottage to the Vikastakken (8 kilometers, 620 meters altitude difference, with breaks just under six hours).

Here the trail is very narrow, sometimes difficult to see or even swampy.

Now at the beginning of July we find a lot of blueberries and cloudberries. The latter are slightly sweet, slightly bitter and a speciality in Norway. Probably an expert would say that these aren’t even ripe yet because the leaves haven’t separated from the fruit yet.

Probably a glacial boulder. Or a troll left it here.

And at the top it’s unspectacular, at least when it’s soupy all around.
