Munich to Norway

Urlaubs-Express Munich Hamburg
Monday night. We board the Urlaubs-Express in Munich with destination Hamburg.

The special thing about the Urlaubs-Express is that you can take your car with you.

And so we can spend the first 800 kilometres asleep. We had been booked into the same compartment with two other passengers, but on request and due to low occupancy we were able to move. The couchettes (slightly cheaper than sleeping cars) are okay, but not super comfortable.

After a small breakfast in Hamburg we cross Denmark without relevent stops.

Fjordline Hirtshals - Kristiansand
To avoid Sweden (a bit critical from the Norwegian point of view at this time regarding Corona) we book a ferry from Hirtshals to Kristiansand. This is the shortest connection and the catamaran ferry from Fjordline only takes two and a quarter hours.

Thus we arrive in Norway on the first day after the end of the Corona lockdown. The entry process at the Norwegean border is not yet fully smooth, but after a COVID test we are allowed to enter the country and – very unusual for us as Germans at that time – we don’t need to wear masks for the next four weeks.

We are insanely lucky with our trip. The weather is mostly good and there are very few foreign tourists around.
