Travelogue Tanzania 2009
Programme Day 10 – Arusha to Sansibar

In the next morning we drive from the hotel to Arusha. Here we get a last lunch and Samuel takes us to the airport.

The flight to Zanzibar is quite funny regarding breaches of security procedures which I won’t describe here 😉 The flight is short, the machine tiny, some ten passengers. Unfortunately we cannot see Kilimanjaro as the summit is surrounded by clouds.

We get picked up from the airport and are taken to Tembo Hotel, a really nice old colonial hotel directly at the sea of Stone Town, the historic center of Zanzibar town. We stroll a bit through the area where most of the houses look totally rundown as the humid air is ideal for fungi growing on the facades. Only hotels bother to have paintwork done regularly. We are told that many of the houses look perfect on the interior.

For the first time we drink bungo juice. he bungo grows only on Zanzibar and even on the internet it is hard to find information about this fruit. But the juice tastes wonderful. We conclude the day on the terrace of our hotel enjoying the sea view.

Zanzibar - end the day with a view over the sea with traditional fishing boats
