Travelogue Tanzania 2009
The best pictures – Gnus

Gnus or wildebeest are actually Antelopes, but they have a own section here because they are so big and there a so many of them. Apart from insects and maybe birds they have the largest population of all species in the national parks of Tanzania. Number seems to be the key of their success. They seem to be the main cat food but obviously they can proliferate faster.

As there a so many of them they have to migrate to find enough food, you can see them in all documentaries showing the big migrations. However, on TV you always see starving animals. What we saw were simply huge herds grazing through the area.
