Minneriya National Park

Directly after our little climb we went to a safari in the Minneriya National Park. A nice little trip, though nowhere near Tanzania to compare.

I have only come across this traffic sign in Sri Lanka so far.

In real life, an Asian water monitor looks like this. The guys can grow up to three meters long. We only saw this one, though.

The Minneriya National Park is especially known for its elephants. The Indian elephants are somewhat smaller than their African relatives.

Our guide told us that in particularly proud specimens, seven things touch the ground ….

Beside elephants there were of course many birds to see, these here are Asian openbills.

And the scenery is lovely too.

The blue peafowl originates from Sri Lanka and India.

And there are water buffalo here. However, a strong mixing of the wild buffaloes with house-buffaloes probably took place on Sri Lanka.
