Travelogue Sri Lanka 2010
Sri Muthumariamman Temple

After six nights at the Kandy Samidhi Center we set off with a private driver towards the centre of the country. For us, it’s a great way to get around. We can stop anywhere to take photos, and we don’t have to deal with the thoroughly crazy traffic. Nevertheless, the behaviour of all drivers is very considerate in a chaos that is unbelievable by our standards. And if there is a cow or an elephant on the road, they have the right to stand there, and the rest of the traffic has to wait.

In Matale we visit (even twice, once on the way there and once on the way back) the Sri Muthumariamman Temple.

This temple is particularly distinguished by its almost 33 meter high gopuram, which are usually richly decorated towers. This gopuram was completed only in 2007, the temple itself dates back to 1874.
