Two walks on the high plateau around Sayq, Jabal Al Akhdar.

Jabal Al Akhdar

Jabal Al Akhdar refers to a mountain range in Oman that reaches about 3000 meters at its highest point. In a narrower sense, however, the name stands for a mountain range located northeast of Nizwa. Here, around the village of Saiq, there is a high plateau at an altitude of about 2000 meters with numerous small villages. This also explains the name Jabal Al Akhdar “The Green Mountain”. This area has a very unusual 300mm of rain a year and a very pleasant climate all year round. This is an ideal place for agriculture, but also for those who can afford to summer there in the hot Arabian summer.

As we didn’t get up there until about half past two, our visit was limited to two walks, the first at Al Manakhir, the second as part of the W18b “Village Walk” between Sayq and Al Aqur.

Agriculture is practiced here on every natural plateau, but also on many small artificial terraces.

And in between a small biotope.

With that, we had the afternoon well filled. If the weather had been better we might have stayed, but so we continued on to Nizwa.
